James Demertzidis began his musical journey at just 5 years old, learning piano and developing an early love for the art. This led him to classical guitar, where he continued to build his skills before eventually picking up the bouzouki, a instrument that would become his true passion. His bouzouki journey was guided and shaped by one of Melbourne’s finest, Peter Lithotomas, whose influence played a key role in developing James’ technique and deep appreciation for the bouzouki.

What started as lessons quickly turned into a deeper cultural connection. After joining the Manasis School of Greek Dance and Culture, James became fully immersed in the Greek music scene. He began performing with Greek bands, playing keyboard, percussion, the traditional Greek flogera, and most notably, bouzouki alongside the Manasis performance group mentored by Dimosthenis. These experiences not only shaped his musicianship but deepened his connection to Greek heritage.

In recent years, James has taken his love for Greek cultural music in a new direction, learning and performing the Pontian lyra. Under the mentorship of the world renowned Matthaios Tsahouridis, James continues to grow as a multi instrumentalist, blending traditional Pontian music with his established bouzouki performances to bring something truly unique to every event.

All performances are fully customisable with curated playlists, and James can also bring in additional musicians, such as vocalists, percussionists, klarino, violin or Lyra players for a full live ensemble experience.
